There are several things you need to know about e-liquid before you get started. The first and foremost thing to consider is what are e-liquids and how can one choose the right product from the various options.
E-liquid, also known as vape juice or vape liquid is a liquid used to create flavoured vapors in electronic cigarettes or vape kits.
There are four main ingredients in e-liquids which are VG (Vegetable Glycerin), PG (Propylene Glycol), Nicotine and Flavouring. However, there are various flavours of e-liquids that contain absolutely zero nicotine.
If you're new to vaping and want to make an easy decision about e-liquids, this guide is just for you.
E-liquid Types
Since most e-liquids contain VG and PG, we can divide e-liquids into two main categories based on their VG and PG concentration ratio. VG – Vegetable Glycerin is a thicker substance, whereas PG (Propylene Glycol) is thinner in quality. E-liquids can be divided based on the amount of VG or PG they contain. The different ratios of VG and PG can affect the density of the vape liquid and thus what type of equipment they will be suitable for. They have an effect on the vapor and a different throat hit.
Types of E-liquid |
Details |
VG bias |
VG-based e-liquids can generate large vapor clouds without a throat hit. |
PG bias |
PG-based e-liquids provide a hit to the throat that may be favoured by those planning to quit smoking. It is possible to generate a large amount of vapor through this element. |
Ratios of PG & VG
E-liquid bottles are labelled with PG and VG amounts. Refer to the pointers below to choose the right amount of VG or PG to locate the correct e-liquid.
E-liquids with more than 50% VG
This type of e-liquid is perfect for kits and coils that have a resistance of less than 1-ohm. This type of coil is suitable for vape kits designed for 'direct to lung' or 'sub ohm' vaping.
E-liquids with more than 50% PG
It is suitable for kits and coils with a resistance greater than 1.0 ohm. These coils are designed for 'mouth to lung’ vaping.
E-liquids with 50% PG and 50% VG ratio
A ratio of 50% VG / 50% PG is considered an ideal combination used in most tanks, coils and vape kits. If the resistance of your coil is less than 0.4 ohms, you should opt for a high VG e-liquid.
Why Are 50/50 e-liquids Considered Ideal?
50/50 e-liquids provide a balance of PG and VG in e-liquids. The mixture of 50% VG and 50% PG makes the e-liquid suitable for use in various vape kits or pod kits. It also provides the perfect balance of vapor and flavour production.
